The dates
Easter Sunday 2027 is 28 March. Good Friday is 26 March and Easter Monday is 29 March. Ascension Day, 39 days after Easter, is Thursday 6 May. Whit Sunday is 16 May and Whit Monday is 17 May. Labour Day, 1 May, lands on a Saturday in 2027.
Easter: a free four-day block, ten days for four leave days
Good Friday to Easter Monday is a four-day break with no leave in Sweden, Germany and Finland. Norway and Denmark also give Maundy Thursday (25 March), which makes it five days.
Spend four leave days on 30 March to 2 April and the break runs from 26 March to 4 April in Sweden, Germany and Finland: ten days. In Norway and Denmark it runs from 25 March to 4 April: eleven days.
Ascension Day: the best ratio of the year
Take Friday 7 May and you are off from Thursday 6 to Sunday 9 May. That is four days for one leave day in every country above. Add 3, 4 and 5 May and the break starts on Saturday 1 May: nine days for four leave days.
Whit Monday: only where it is a holiday
Whit Monday (17 May) is a public holiday in Germany, Norway and Denmark in the Nager.Date feed, not in Sweden or Finland. Where it applies, 15 to 17 May is a free three-day weekend. Four leave days on 18 to 21 May stretch it to nine days, 15 to 23 May.
Denmark's Friday after Ascension Day (7 May) is a bank closing day, which Nager.Date does not mark as a public holiday. If your employer gives it as a day off, the real cost of the Ascension break in Denmark is zero leave days.
